Bio: Degree in Land and Water Use from the Van Hall-Larenstein University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands (1980). Post-graduate courses at the IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre on Community Water Supply (1986), the UNESCO-IHE on Integrated Water Resources Management (2004), and the Management Development Foundation on Project Management and Proposal Writing (2004). Over 30 years of professional experience. Primarily in the fields of project management, integrated water resource management, land and water management, sustainable land use and planning, and rural development. Secondary fields of expertise include hydrology, natural resource management, climate change adaptation, capacity building, community participation, flood management, and WASH. Countries of work experience include The Netherlands, Sudan, Kenya, Zambia, Iraq, Iran, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Indonesia. Worked some 25 years in Indonesia and speaks the language fluently. Hands-on specialist and project manager with many years of practice, a.o. in the coastal peat- and lowlands of Sumatera, Kalimantan and Papua (Indonesia). Strong affinity with rural communities and livelihoods, natural resource management in the context of eco-system landscapes, rural development, agriculture, and national and regional food security. Most recently engaged as team leader, study leader, and sustainable development specialist in national and regional studies involving policy dialogue, climate change, strategic environmental assessment, natural resource management, spatial planning, land use planning, rural development, and peat land rehabilitation in the coastal lowlands of Kalimantan, Sumatera and Papua in Indonesia. As cluster leader involved in community participation, solid waste, sanitation and flood management pilots in Jakarta. Self employed through Nedworc Foundation since 2013. Currently available for new assignments.
