Bio:

I am a Microbiologist with a background in Environmental Science. Project work I have been involved with has included business development, project management, proposal management, proposal writing, data handling, literature reviewing, report writing, proof reading and laboratory analyses. Previous to joining WRc I completed an MSc in Environmental Science from the University of Aberdeen and a BSc in Microbiology from the University of Glasgow. The course in Environmental Science covered a wide range of topics including a project titled “Bioactivity of Contaminated Soils as a Predictive Tool for Bioremediation”, a literature review on Decision Support Tools in the environmental sector, an environmental analysis project on the fate of nitrates in reservoirs, environmental microbiology, and environmental management. While studying Microbiology many aspects of practical and theoretical microbiology were explored, including an honours project on the primase-like protein of Trypanosoma brucei (African Sleeping Sickness) as a potential target for development of effective pharmaceutical drugs or vaccines. Also studied during this course were tropical diseases, their transmission and mitigation strategies (such as flushing slow-moving streams to kill mosquito larvae, use of insecticides to kill insect vectors, sanitation, education, immunisation). Diseases of focus included Malaria, AIDs, Cholera, Tuberculosis, Chagas Disease, African Sleeping Sickness and River Blindness.
