Ecolab Acquires Chinese Water Treatment Firm

Global provider of water, hygiene and energy technologies and services, Ecolab Inc acquired a controlling interest in Jianghai Environmental Protection Co. Ltd. Headquartered in Changzhou, China, Jianghai is an industrial water treatment company

Jianghai, with annual sales of $90 million, provides water treatment technologies, chemistries and services to several industries in China, including customers in power and chemicals. The company has more than 550 employees and operates two manufacturing plants in Changzhou.

We believe that the deal is highly complementary for Ecolab and will boost its water management business in China significantly. The buyout is also expected to broaden Ecolab’s services and strengthen its long-term growth opportunities in the increasingly water-stressed China market.

Notably, Ecolab already serves customers in China through its Nalco subsidiary. Acquired in 2011, Nalco has expanded the company’s foothold across fast growing emerging markets while providing attractive opportunities for further growth.

We feel that Ecolab remains committed toward the vital issue of water conservation and management. Last month, Nalco announced the launch of its upgraded 3D TRASAR Technology for Cooling Water. The enhanced 3D TRASAR platform will provide the necessary web-based performance metrics and operational support to facilitate better water management.

In addition, the company recently launched Syncra Hand Hygiene System, which uses up to 50% less water than traditional hand washing and at the same time, delivers consistent results.

Also, in May 2015, Ecolab launched its Clean and Conserve Education Program in partnership with the Project WET Foundation. The program is designed to educate students about the importance of water conservation and hygiene in order to promote a more sustainable use of water.
