Canal projects

Experience sharing in managing the gap between designed capacity and irrigated area needs.

In a canal project, canals are planned and designed  to utilise the available water with maximum efficiency. But there is always a wide gap between designed and irrigated area.

Normally canals are constructed to transfer water from one place to other place for providing irrigation facilities, industrial use, drinking water, etc. There are so many variations an shape, construction material, design of canals. Water carrying capacity of canal depends on proper layout, design and construction.

I worked as research officer on a USAID assisted Action Research Project for Gudha Medium irrigation Project in Bundi district of Rajasthan State of India for two and a half year. The dam was commissioned in 1958 - 59.
