Hello everyone, can some one tell me how much total suspended solids(TSS) comes from Aeration tank after processing? and secondary clarifier inlet.

example:ETP Inlet parameters 

Flow 100 m3/hr

BOD = 1000PPM

COD = 2000PPM

TSS  = 2000PPM

Let me know the outlet parameters BOD,COD and TSS of after

1.After primary clarifier

Types of biological systems

2.After activated sludge process( MLSS 3500 PPM)

3.After extended aeration process(MLSS 3500 PPM)

4.After MBBR aeration process(MLSS 6000 PPM)

5.After SAFFaeration process(MLSS 6000 PPM)

6.After SBR aeration process(MLSS 8000 PPM)

7.After MBR aeration process(MLSS 12000 PPM)

8.secondary clarifier inlet 

9.secondary clarifier outlet...

Please let know the answers its so very important to know

Dear Mallikarjuna,

First of all, what are you looking for by assessing the TSS coming out of Aeration Basin?
Do you want to size/design the Secondary Clarifier?
or want to have sufficient Sludge Holding Tank sizing?
or want to Size the Sludge Dewatering Unit (Belt Press, Filter Press etc.)?

Obviously TSS (MLSS) coming out of Aeration Basin depends at least on the following factors;

BOD, COD, TSS of the Influent
Desired BOD, COD, TSS Output after Treatment
Biological Process Selected (Activated Sludge Process, Extended Aeration Process, SBR, MBBR, MBR etc.) as every process has different dynamics.

The TSS coming out of Aeration Basin are termed as MLSS (Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids) as this is Activated Sludge out of which we drain some part called Waste Activated Sludge (WAS) and a big portion we recirculate to maintain the Biological Activity in the Aeration Basin called Returned Activated Sludge (RAS).

There are may Biological Processes through which different quantity of sludge is being produced like Activated Sludge System produces much Sludge then Extended Aeration System.

It is required if you properly rephrased your question with some basic data influent/effluent BOD, COD, TSS at least with flow rate, so a proper response is formulated instead of a general response.

Hello Dear Mr. Mallikarjuna, how have you been?

I think that are some important points for you to know how much TSS come out of the aeration Tank, as folow:

- The Organic Load (BOD): the solids generation depends of the Organig Mather that inflow in the aeration basin.

- Sludge Recicling: how much sludge are recicled into the aeration basin?

- Biological activitie and conditions: How are the biological conditions of the effluent? Is it good for biodegradation? (Temperature, Yeld, Biological kinetics, aeration type, all those factor must afect the TSS production)

Look in the section 8-3 of Metcalf and Eddy for more information.

Some literatures say that the TSS in the Aeration basin must be between 2500 to 4500 mg/l for activated sludge. But if you are using MBR, this can be rised to 8-12 tousand mg/l (or even more!). Well, this is will depend on the factoros cited above.
