The Mexican government plans to invest 2bn pesos (US$153mn) in irrigation works this year, according to a release from agriculture ministry Sagarpa.

National water commission Conagua will work with Sagarpa to increase agricultural productivity as well as ensure a more efficient use of water for irrigation.

Works include the construction of water storage dams, irrigation and drainage infrastructure, well drilling and water distribution systems.
