Bio: Julien is a Senior Water Resources Engineer at AECOM where he is responsible for business development and leadership roles in addition to his technical work in rural and urban water projects. Julien’s eight years experience in the Water Industry includes experience in both small companies and large corporations across several Australian states. In addition to growing a promising career in the areas of urban drainage, water sensitive urban design and climate change adaptation, Julien has been involved in several volunteering roles with professional associations including the ACT Chapter of the AWA and several Engineers Australia committees. Demonstrating a passion for water, Julien has been a member of the YWP and main ACT AWA Committee since 2008. Since January 2012, Julien has represented the ACT on the National Representatives Committee of Young Water Professionals, where he currently holds the position of Vice-President. Over the years, Julien’s effort towards increasing the collaboration between professional associations has initiated a burgeoning partnership between Engineers Australia and AWA in the ACT in the organisation of joint events. Julien has an active involvement with Engineers Australia’s Society for Sustainability and Environmental Engineering (SSEE) where he has been promoting and raising awareness towards a more sustainable use of water resources and the need for multi-disciplinary approaches. For the National Water Engineering committee of Engineers Australia, Julien chaired the organisation of a national conference on climate change adaptation in Canberra (May 2012). Subsequently, Julien has been invited to join the organisation of the SSEE 2013 National Conference. Since April 2012, Julien has been working on promoting the water and engineering disciplines to the ACT chapter of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture (AILA). He recently served as one of the jury members for the ACT AILA 2012 Awards. An engaging communicator and keen advocate of the profession and industry, Julien has experience speaking to many varied audiences including community and school groups, and industry events. A successful example of skilled migration to Australia, he has assisted four overseas professionals in obtaining positions within the Australian Water Industry. Julien completed with Greatest Distinction a Bachelors degree equivalent study program from the French Ecole d’Ingenieurs Istom near Paris, specialising in environmental sciences, agricultural engineering and commerce in 2003, after which he was accepted to the Inter-University Program in Water Resources Engineering at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium where he completed a Masters Degree in Water Resources Engineering with Great Distinction in 2005.
