What policies are being put in place to better purify domestic water?

We hear a lot about domestic water demonstrating raised levels of oestrogen and anti depressants being flushed from humans in high concentrations in ways that current purification processes can't remove efficiently. What efforts are being made to assess the safety levels and rectify this issue?
