How is the United Kingdom putting policies in place to protect it's 'water footprint'?

A recent study carried out by WWF revealed that the United Kingdom is currently the 6th largest  net importer of virtual water for agriculture. What policies need to be implemented to mitigate the UK water footprint in the future?
