I live in dubai and as is the norm 90 % consume Bottled water, since the local authority has switched to Chlorine dioxide i have switched over to drinking tap water( earlier the overhead tank cleaning by land lords was a suspect but ClO2 you are assured of no biofilm hence safe to drink
I don't think the motivation is affected by quality of water issues. For some people, their motivation to drink or not to drink tap water is affected by the constant bombardment of marketing and communication messages from bottled water vendors pushing people away from tap water. Until we get the profile of tap water raised and the value of water defined more precisely in the minds of consumers, we have an uphill battle in motivating people to prefer tap water to bottled water. Arguably, for some, drinking bottled water is about convenience, and these are the likely early adopters back to drinking only tap water. (Fill a stainless steel re-useable and carry it around, for God's sake). But for most, bottled water is winning from the packaging, labeling, brand building, advertising, marketing, and other fronts, us water soldiers have a lot of work to do. Perhaps we can convince water bottlers to take up the cause and push the message that we all drink tap water (first choice) and use bottled water only for necessity or convenience (second choice). That's placing the environment before profits. What an idea! It would certainly look good on their sustainability reports if they did that. Hmmm. Let's talk to the companies right away. I am taking names.
Bottled water doesn't have to list the source, purification methods, or chemical pollutants on the bottle, so there's no telling what you're drinking.
