UK recognises right to sanitation

The UK has recognised sanitation as a human right under international law and has committed to doubling ambition's on water, sanitation and hygiene to reach at least 60 million people by 2015 (however, in the government interpretation, “the collection and transport of human waste” is excluded).

The Government has issued a statement setting out details of the right to sanitation as recognised by the UK. See the attached document.

A significant step forward, it will be interesting to see how this is going to be implement and adopted by the beneficiary countries.
