Energy and Water Linkage: Challenge to a Sustainable Future

Energy, water and food security are central challenges for humanity and are strongly linked. While the energy and water intensity of food production is understood, the direct interaction between meeting energy needs and assuring water availability is less widely recognised. If these linked challenges are to be met, greater integration of water and energy considerations is needed in planning and investment, particularly in infrastructure development, and associated policies.
