
Bloomberg News (3/8, Mahdi, Dipaola) reported in a short article Saudi Arabia plans to "start its first solar-powered sea water desalination plant by 2013" according to Mohammed Alsuwaiyel, president of King Abdullah City for Science and Technology. The plant is located in al-Khafji along the Saudi-Kuwati border, and will be the world's larger solar-power desal plant. It will be able to "produce 30,000 cubic meters of water for 100,000 people living in al-Khafji, according to KACST."
