IDA supports the development of technological solutions to lower the costs of desalination, reduce its energy needs and mitigate or eliminate environmental concerns. It holds World Congresses every two years, attended by scientists, engineers, members of the public sector and others involved in the desalination industry.

On behalf of the International Water Association (IWA), its Specialist Group on Design, Operation and Economics of Large Wastewater Treatment Plants, the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and the Hungarian Water Utility Association, it is our pleasure to invite you to join us for the 11 th IWA Specialised Conference “Design, Operation and Economics of Large Waste Water Treatment Plants”

The Conference will include a series of keynote speakers, supported by presentations on key water issues facing stormwater practitioners. It is our aim to include within the conference, technical sessions and themed streams to engage and build the knowledge and skills of attendees. The Conference Program will be designed to feature a mixture of papers including research, experience or case studies of projects undertaken, especially those that add to the knowledge, understanding and practical application of stormwater in NSW, and the NSW Stormwater Industry.

The Automation in Water Quality Monitoring (AutMoNet) Conference series is dedicated to the whole range of sensor and monitoring technologies and their applications on the whole water cycle, including sewers, wastewater treatment plants, drinking water plants and distribution networks.

Topics to be covered at WaterMicro 2011 include water pollution and diseases; microbial source tracking; catchment protection; biofilm studies; water and sanitation in developing country; climate change and water quality; recreational water and health; epidemiology of waterborne diseases; microbial risk assessment; microbial quality of shellfish growing areas, applications of nanotechnology; water and energy and; zoonoses. In addition to a special HRWM workshop, there will be a combined WHO and HRWM workshop as well as a joint day spent with the Diffuse Pollution Group.

This conference is the biennial conference of the South African Ground Water Division. In 2011 we will be joined by the International Association of Hydrogeologists and welcome them to hold their annual council and commission meetings at the conference.

In order to meet the current and future needs of the water sector a continuous development of skills and leadership of the Young Water Professionals is required. Two years ago it was therefore decided to start up the Young Water Professionals movement in the BeNeLux. This movement is supported by the International Water Association (IWA).
