Hello everyone,

I got special permission to invite members of this group to 2 water seminars happening in London on the 1st and the 4th. Unlike most seminars, these are free to attend but require that you register in advance.

SEMINAR 1: Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus – a Business Approach

Friday 1st March, 17:15 – 18:15

Where: King's College,Strand Campus, London (Send me a message for more details)

Followed by: An informal drinks reception in the geography foyer

Abstract:

It is tacitly agreed that decisions on water, energy and food must be taken in a coherent and concerted fashion. Policy makers, civil society organisations, academia and research institutes are trying to understand and analyse the interconnectedness of water, energy and food security to the best of their capacities. Businesses are also not lagging behind as they are a substantive participant in the process to shape and implement this concept at both the policy and at the market level.

For businesses ‘nexus’ is a double-edge sword. On one hand, it poses challenges and risks associated across sectors, value chains and at different geographies. On the other, the nexus brings opportunities, offering concrete possibilities towards an inclusive green economy.

Businesses are carefully analysing individual linkages between water, energy and food. The seminar will offer the pragmatic approach businesses have adopted that (i) offers long term insights for short term responses, and (ii) supports decisions and helps refining results.

I do hope at least some of you can make it. Perhaps we could meet earlier for a quick cup of coffee and make the most of this networking and learning event. Do let me know if you're interested in attending.
