A canal having length of 44km and 54 cusec discharge is required for it.  How much allowance should I keep for loss along the canal? Soil is clayey and sandy mix

I understand that you should categories 44 km length in different zones based upon sub soil soil strata and canal bank strata, and also cutting and filling portions, distance of natural or artificial drainage channel from the canal, presence of salts in the soil. You may like to use the ponding method to measure the probable losses in the canal and design the canal accordingly.
