  • Water treatment co Desalitech raises $6.25m

    Advanced water treatment solutions provider Desalitech Ltd. has raised $6.25 million in a second financing round led by global private equity fund Liberation Capital LLC. The investment will be used for expanding Desalitech's business and working capital. Liberation said that it would also be supporting Desalitech with considerable project finance capital.

  • China shuts coke plant over Chlorine

    The food-safety regulator in Shanxi province said Saturday that during an April inspection it found that a batch of drinks produced by Coca-Cola (Shanxi) Beverage Ltd. was made with water containing chlorine. The statement, from the Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, refers to the suspension as a penalty for the chlorine levels.

    The statement didn't detail the findings and didn't say when the plant will resume production.

  • Takadu raises 3 million in water network monitoring

    ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced its decision to invest in TaKaDu, a provider of advanced monitoring solutions for water distribution networks.   • UK water companies begin regional trading

    Severn Trent aims to sell 30 million litres of water a day to Anglian Water, one of the seven companies that imposed a hosepipe ban last week, to help ease the shortage.

    Pumping from boreholes, Severn Trent plans to flow water from sources beneath Birmingham into the River Tame, which joins the Trent. The water will then flow to Gainsborough, Lincs, where Anglian Water will take it up.

  • Syngenta combines operations to refocus on grower needs

    Syngenta recently announced that it will combine its commercial operations worldwide, refocusing research and development efforts on crop and grower needs.

    The company was previously working from an asset-based model, with crop protection and seed care divisions kept separate, said Andrea McConnell, cereals portfolio manager for Syngenta in North America.

    Bringing the technology together allows the company to maximize opportunities in the crop, as opposed to looking at it primarily from a herbicide or fungicide standpoint, McConnell said.
