Data-driven Management of Aquifer in Kenya

International groundwater centre IGRAC, together with consultancy Acacia Water, studied the potential of the Management Aquifer Recharge (MAR) in the transboundary Merti aquifer, shared between Kenya and Somalia

The project was commissioned by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) of Eastern Africa.

Mobile technology improves water access in Rwanda

A smartphone-sized device is being used to monitor water pumps across Rwanda, making it easier to locate broken pumps and quicker to fix them.

Developed by Portland State University in the United States, one battery-powered device is installed on each pump. Its SIM card sends information on water flow and the general state of the system to a central server.

Although the prototype costs around US$500, its developers say this is a worthwhile investment considering that each pump costs around US$15,000.

Accenture to Help Thames Water Prove the Benefits of Smart Monitoring Capabilities

Accenture (NYSE:ACN) has been selected by Thames Water, the largest provider of water and wastewater services in the UK, to prove new ways of working by integrating its business systems with its operations technologies.

Using Accenture Smart Grid Services powered by Accenture Analytics, Accenture will conduct an 18 month pilot from September 2013 to March 2015 at various Thames Water sites, to test, monitor and assess the benefits of the technology integration.
