Sri Lanka's Ceylon Daily News (8/17) reports that "around 12,000 people will be provided drinking water facilities from small and medium scale water supply projects throughout the country, Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said." He added that by the end of 2011, over 1.2 million people will benefit from the 50 small and medium water supply projects. "The minister further said that the ministry will take action to inaugurate these projects with immediate effect. 'The authorities should work according to a timetable to complete all projects systematically."
