Dr Corrado Sommeriva, managing director of ILF Consultants Middle East, was elected president of the International Desalination Association on 5 September 2011, the first day of the IDA's World Congress in Perth, Australia, where he is co-chairing the technical program.
Sommeriva, who is based in Abu Dhabi and heads the worldwide desalination activities of the main ILF company, was a surprise winner of the election among the board members of IDA, coming through by only one vote from the previous first vice-president, Michel Canet of Veolia.
